Album Review - Utilitarian by Napalm Death
As I am extremely new to this whole blogging malarkey and to be honest have no fucking idea what I am supposed to be doing I thought I would review the most recent album I acquired which is Napalm Death’s “Utilitarian” album (2012).
The Birmingham raised gods of grind gifted us this year with there 15th studio album and as expected it is a brutal butcherfuck to the senses with Barney Greenway’s voice penetrating the ear drums like a skrewdriver dipped in aftershave … in a good way. The album kicks off with the almost sludgy instrumental “circumspect” which sets the scene for the rest of the album, starting with gentle slightly distorted guitar it gradually gets heavier and heavier as if almost fluffing the listener for the rest of the album but that’s about as tame as this album gets. As soon as the second track “errors in the signals” kicks in with the very familiar blastbeats and blistering riffs you realise you are dealing with the death.
However even though the album follows the basic formula of the albums before it that is not to say this album is the same as there others (cos what would the fucking point in that be ?) there seems to be some distinct references to some of the other hardcore sub genres notably sludgecore which is apparent in quite a lot of the breakdowns of the songs. The death metal influence which is found in a lot of there later work is still there also so there is actually some length to the songs. One thing that makes this album stand out from the others also is that it uses a lot of talking samples and even the occasional clean vocal (not in a metalcore way don’t worry barney hasn’t gone soft) which helps break the songs up nicely and make each one have its own distinct sound.
In conclusion if you like Napalm Death you will like this no questions asked as it is just as brutal and aggressive as anything else they have released. I would advise this to all fans of grind and to be honest all fans of hardcore in general as there is more than your standard blastbeat-growlfest in there (although trust me there are plenty blastbeats and growls to be found).
I personally think think this album was absolutely fucking fantastic and I give it 9 rotten cats out of a full chicken chow mein … trust me this will grind your mind
”I’ve always taken drugs and I probably always will, but there’s a difference between having the odd crafty bump up the snout as a reward for a job well done and letting it rule your life.”
This may be the best quote I have ever heard …Oh Danny Dyer you scamp I have a whole new level of respect for you

Thought I would give this Tumblr malarkey a pop, not really sure what I’m meant to do so here are some pictures of my piss.
